Randy Peterson was raised to embrace agriculture and rural Illinois living. He is a 4th generation farmer who was brought up... to work hard and live off the land in Edgar County. He continues to farm alongside his family with hopes to pass along the same principles and values to his son. Randy has also been heavily involved in the agricultural community through FFA, 4-H and the Edgar County Fair. He has worked hard to promote and increase participation in the Edgar County Fair throughout his 14 years as a board member. He is found on the fairgrounds most nights during the summer months preparing for the week long celebration of our agricultural heritage.
Randy’s community involvement only begins with his commitment to the fair. Randy has a long history of leadership within his community and his party while maintaining memberships in organizations such as the Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever, and the National Rifle Association. He is an active member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrine Club, a Director for the Paris Area Chamber of Commerce, and is currently the Edgar County Republican Chairman. He also served as an Edgar County Precinct Committeeman for 14 years and has been an active volunteer on nearly every Republican candidate’s campaign whether it be for a statewide, districtwide or local office. He stands strong for his party and those who represent it.
Randy has spent his career working his way to the top. He is a prime example of how a young person can earn a good living through dedication, commitment and hard work. He has worked in the construction industry for 15 years beginning as machine operator and oiler of cranes and heavy equipment working his way up to crane erector and mechanic. Due to his strong leadership he moved up to manage equipment operations for projects all across North America. Currently he is the Crane Fleet Manager for a large construction firm where he actively negotiates contracts, implements cost controls, and develops and oversees budgets.
Randy is dedicated to his community and will carry out that same commitment to the entire 102nd District. He is a dedicated civil servant who can relate to each of us who work hard to make a living and are frustrated with the politics in Springfield. He has vowed to carry our voices to the General Assembly and fight for what Illinois citizens need to keep or find good paying jobs while working hard to provide tax relief and cut government spending.
Randy resides in Paris with his wife, Hilary, and his 8 year old son, Jay. He is not just running for State Representative for the future of his family, he is running for the future of your family too.

Welfare Reform

More on my position regarding necessary welfare reform.

I think it is absurd that we spend more each year on welfare than on our children’s education. We need to focus on what matters most-the future of our children. Their education is the most important and fundamental part of their lives. We have created a welfare system with loose guidelines and a lack of accountability. We have a system that nearly anyone can take advantage of and it clearly shows as I have spoken to plant managers and human resource directors who state that their biggest competitor for workforce is Illinois. We need to provide support.

Cap property taxes

As Illinois residents, we pay the 2nd highest property taxes in the nation.

As Illinois residents, we pay the 2nd highest property taxes in the nation. I know I sweat each year when property taxes are due and I know each of you do as well. I know several people who work here in Illinois but choose to live in Indiana because of their property tax rates. I also know of several others who refuse to make improvements to their homes because they fear the tax increase that comes with it. This is why I support a property tax free. I want to end those fears and make Illinois more competitive and provide relief for our residents.

Cut government spending

More on my position on cutting government spending

Our government has operated very inefficiently for years without question or change. I believe each agency’s procedures, inventories, and operation should be evaluated for inefficiencies. Many agencies are duplicating efforts and others are wasting valuable dollars through purchases of unnecessary equipment or resources. Through interagency cooperation and by creating efficiencies, we can cut government spending significantly and that is just a start! We need to cut spending, not develop new ways for paying for it that creates an even bigger hardship for us taxpayers.
