Biography

I was born and raised in Jo Daviess County, Illinois.  My hometown of Elizabeth had 700 residents and most people knew each other or were related to each other when I was growing up.

I graduated with a B.A. in Social Work from Loras College in 1994 and worked for Department of Housing and Urban Development.  Later I worked as a social worker for Catholic Charities with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.  After working for 5 years, I returned to law school and graduated from Saint Louis University in 2002.  After law school, I served as an Executive Director for a non-profit child advocacy organization where I supervised 2 paid staff and 27 volunteers.  As an attorney, I became a guardian ad litem representing abused and neglected children in court in Randolph and Perry counties.  In 2008, I became the Assistant Public Defender in Marion county and served in that role until 2010.  From 2011 through today, I have served as an Assistant Public Defender in Champaign County, Illinois.

I am married to Reverend Tom Corum, a United Methodist minister.  Together we are raising two children.  Jacqueline is 20 years old and a student at University of Kentucky.  Benjamin is 13 years old and a middle school student.  During the course of our family life, we have had the opportunity to become members of a number of wonderful communities through the work of my husband.  Our family lived in Marion County from 2007 through 2010 when my husband was moved by his Bishop to serve a church in Champaign, Illinois.   While I have lived in a number of different places, I have fond feelings for the people of Marion County and the sense of community that makes people feel at home in Marion County.
