Answer from Christopher Anthony:

Primary advocate to govern and administer on behalf of the health and safety of citizens.

The Sun-Times has written about the problem of tenants on MWRD land who release chemical pollutants into the local waterways. Please provide strategies for the best use of MWRD land holdings to meet the district’s statutory duties and advance the district’s goals.

  • Educational seminars for tenants to register
  • Include community service involvement
  • Apply power of Inspector general’s to review and audit
What is the appropriate role of the MWRD in regional efforts to deal with the problems of storm water management and Asian carp?
Answer from Christopher Anthony:
  • Inspect area semi annually (audit)
  • Bring in predators to support nature life cycle process.
Why would you say is there still significant flooding in the Chicago region, including the south and north suburbs? What should be the MWRD’s role in mitigating flooding?
Answer from Christopher Anthony:
  • There is no defined systematic way to understand the problem areas.
  • Add in structured way to assess on a semi-annual basis.


Will more steps need to be taken to alleviate North Side flooding after the Albany Park tunnel opens?
Answer from Christopher Anthony:

Yes, looking over the Albany park tunnel will provide numbers and solutions to review, if turns out well. We can use it in other communities. If it goes bad, we cannot continue with this process.

How would you protect the ducks being sucked into the disinfection facility at the O’Brien Treatment plant?
Answer from Christopher Anthony:
  • The ducks need to be re routed
  • Evaluate the water currents to re-route to safer areas
