Biografía

I believe that in my more than 31 years of practice I have developed the judgment and experience necessary to sit as a trial court Judge. When I first applied to law school, I was honored to have my first mentor, John Jacobs, write a letter of recommendation in which he stated that I possessed “uncommonly good common sense.” That is a trait that I was very proud of then, as I am today.  Uncommonly good common sense is an admirable trait for anyone but particularly for Judges.

I graduated with Honors from DePaul University’s College of Law in 1984 where I was a member of the Law Review. I began my legal career with the firm now known as Katten Muchin Rosenman where I was elected Partner in 1990. In 2002 I joined the Chicago office of Howrey LLP.  I am currently with Novus Law LLC.

I have litigated and tried cases of all sizes and types, from A to Z (Antitrust to Zoning). I have tried cases before Judges, juries and arbitration panels. I have handled and argued a number of appeals. I have handled a number of pro bono matters, particularly in the area of Guardianship for Adult-disabled persons.

I am active in the communities in which I live and work. My experiences have included the following:

·         Trial Coach for Chicago Coalition for Law Related Education program (Theodore Roosevelt, Hubbard and Crane High School’s Mock Court Team)

·         Mentor under Illinois Supreme Court’s Lawyer-to-Lawyer Mentor Program

·         Roles with Chicago Bar Association’s Judicial Evaluation, Securities Law and E Discovery Committees

·         Member of Northbrook Caucus Park District Committee

·         President of Chicago United Hockey League, Northbrook Hockey League and GBN Spartan Hockey Club

·         Past Board Member, Teen Living Programs, Inc.

·         Participant in St. Malachy’s Tutor program (through Old St. Patrick’s Church)

·         Member of St. Norbert Parish, Northbrook

I have been married to Kay Hanlon for over 29 years. We have two great boys, Kevin (20) and Jack (18).  They are the love of my life.

The people of Cook County depend on a fair, prompt and cost effective way to resolve disputes and legal matters in their Courts. For each litigant, their case, no matter what is at stake, may well be viewed by them as the most important matter to them. I would treat their matter as such.  I would also treat each person with respect and dignity. I would want each person to who appeared before me to leave believing that the Court system was better than they imagined it to be, no matter the outcome. Achieving that goal depends on how I treat each person appearing before me, the attention I give to their matter, as well as the fundamental fairness they experience.
